What is RYLA?
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is an exciting three day Rotary program for youth who have potential to be leaders today and tomorrow.  RYLA is for youth who want to develop their leadership skills.  Citizenship and personal growth are also emphasized.

Information is shared in a way that is fun and motivating. You learn by doing with others who share a common purpose..  Let’s call it fun with a purpose.  RYLA is sponsored by Rotary International, District 5360.

Who Leads the Program?
What makes RYLA different?  It’s simple.  Sessions are lead by other young people who are professionals or university students along with community leaders and other facilitators.

Will I Make New Friends?

  • Meet new friends who share similar interests and outlooks.
  • Meet other students searching for answers to life’s tough questions.

What Will I Learn?
Do you like to learn new things about yourself and the world around you? Do you have solutions to solve serious problems at school or in your community? Has anyone ever asked you what they are?

RYLA is all about exchanging ideas and discussing various topics.  For example, serious problems like drug use, gang violence, or other relevant issues are identified.  You will work in groups to find solutions that are realistic and can be implemented in their communities. Students also hear engaging speakers talk about subjects like:

  • Peer pressure – is being one of the gang worth it?
  • Leadership skills – do I have them, and how do I develop them?
  • Alcohol and drugs – how can I avoid the pitfalls?
  • Stress – when is it good and when is it not so good?
  • Money – how can I manage it?
  • Rotary Student Exchange – what is it and who can apply?
  • Rotary – what is community service?

Who Qualifies?
If you are a High School Student and live within Rotary International, District 5360, you may qualify for RYLA.  Participants must be between ages 15 -18 and be recommended by school guidance counsellors or local Rotary Clubs.  They are usually in grade 10 or 11.
